Frequently Asked Stucco Coating Questions

Questions about restoring your stucco?

The following are some of the most commonly asked questions.

  • How Long Has Chic® Advanced Coating System Been Around?

It was developed in England in the 1960s and has been used in North America since 1984.

  • Is It Toxic?

No. It is water-based and environmentally friendly. We clean our equipment with soap and cold water. It also meets or exceeds all local and federal standards for exterior wall applications.

  • How Low Maintenance Is It?

The CHIC® Advanced Coating System leaves a non-porous, smooth finish that resists dirt pick-up, so it stays clean longer. Dirt will not adhere like paint, so it is much easier to clean. This provides the homeowner with a beautiful finish that is easy to keep that way.

  • Can You Make My Home 'Low Maintenance' so I Will 'Never Paint Again'?

Yes, this unique formulation has withstood the test of time in all climates from some of the harshest weather Mother Nature has to offer. Consider this lighthouse on the west coast of Canada. Wind-driven rain and salt water were literally eating the paint off the lighthouse and destroying it until the CHIC® Advanced Coating System was applied 20 years ago.

  • What Other Well-Known Structures Have Used Chic® Advanced Coating System?

The Peace Arch is at the Canada/US border, near Vancouver's Science World building, the US Consul General's residence in Vancouver, and thousands of houses and commercial buildings, including high rises, townhomes, office buildings, and restaurants.

  • Why Doesn't Paint Last?

The Federal Government banned the use of lead and mercury in manufacturing paints. This significantly reduced the paint's ability to resist the elements and shortened its life span. Also, because paint is fragile and porous, it provides poor protection for walls against the elements.

  • What Types of Surfaces Can Be Coated With the Chic® Advanced Coating System?

All surfaces, including wood, fibre cement (Hardy board ), brick, block, stucco, aluminum, vinyl siding, and asbestos siding, can be coated with CHIC® Advanced Coating System.

  • Have You Done Any Historic Homes?

Historical societies approve the CHIC® Advanced Coating System to restore the home to its original condition while preserving the architectural details.

  • Can I Do It Myself?

Because we feel so strongly about the quality of our jobs, our CHIC® Advanced Coating System is only installed by approved installers. From the initial wall preparation to the final clean-up, you can rest assured that your job was done to the highest possible standards.

  • Is Breathability an Issue?

Absolutely! A non-breathable coating will cause extensive moisture-related problems and rot in your building. The CHIC® Advanced Coating System creates a highly breathable surface that is also completely weatherproof.

  • How Is It Applied?

After a thorough preparation of the exterior of your building, a three-coat system is applied by brushing, rolling, spraying, or any combination thereof.

  • How Long Does This Process Take?

While some jobs can be completed in as little as three days, most homes can be completed within five working days.

  • How Many Colours Does It Come in?

We offer over 2000 standard colours with custom colours available.

  • What Is the Cost of Using the Chic® Advanced Coating System on My Home?

Every job differs; please get in touch with the office for an assessment on your property.
